500 is as good a number as any to say goodnight

that's right folks, it's been a long strange and wonderful trip, but i'm wrapping this blog up in favor of continuing my blogging on my new website. it's not like things will change all that much as i'll still be ranting and raving and doing all the things i do here. i'll just be consolidating all my work in one area rather than having it all spread out. ending the blog here is bittersweet in many ways. but lets face it, i've not been all that great in the last few moths at keeping up with things. my life has been turned upside down and the blog was naturally the first thing to get pushed by the wayside. but i'll keep it up, as an archive for those people who have nothing better to do than to browse my musings, and like i said, i'll be blogging on unfettered on the Red Handed Studios site, so head over there and pick up the RSS feed so you don't miss a single word!

no time like the present

it's Christmas morning and i'm up incredibly early, even for a Christmas! of course this year there are things under the tree for me as well as everyone else which is a weird departure from the last few years...but hey, it's all god. i'll manage! :)

so yeah, i haven't been around much lately. sorry about that. part of it was on purpose, as things were going on and once i start writing about it...well then all hell breaks loose. the other part of it was of course time constraints. i just haven't had much spare time. but instead of having time on my hands, i HAVE been busy!

check out the brand new Red Handed Studios website! yeah baby! while you're there you can subscribe to the whole Fallen Justice series if you want to! or y ou can buy individual issues, whatever you like! or you can even just check out the various characters and cool stuff we're showing you there. as we go along we'll grow the site of course, but it's a good start and a great looking site. can't wait to see what's next!

as for the rest...we'll leave all that for another day huh? but rest assured it's all gonna come out in the wash.

be safe out there and have a great Christmas.

stepping towards the dark side

i'm thinking of buying a Macbook pro. shoot me now! argh! but it's looking more and more like the best option. you can run windows, you can have the mac...it looks to me like a win win deal there. so we'll see. and i've always kinda wanted to learn macs anyway. might be the right time. plus the price is damn sure right! so we'll see. i'll have more intl on this as we get close.

the Cowboys overhauled the Seahawks Thanksgiving day. so that was nice. chickenhawks is more like it. lol

and lets see what else. got the website coming along nicely! Red Handed studios will be live in a month! yes!

and that's about it for today. it's getting colder! starting to look a lot like Christmas!

Movie time!

I watched "The other Boleyn girl" last night. Pretty much a bullshit Hollywood fluff piece overall. You know the type I'm talking about. The kind of movie where they decide to break out and dust off a warehouse full of Victorian era costumes, accents, and sets and hire up a bunch of A list actors to go through the motions because they haven't done one in a while, and it's about time. Yeah. That's the one. I mean it wasn't bad really, but it wasn't great either. I'm usually a sucker for period work, and this one looked great on the surface. Sets and costumes were top notch. But the screen play was for crap. I didn't mind the casting so much overall, and in fact I did enjoy the infighting scenes between the Boleyn sisters as they jockeyed back and forth for Henry. You did feel genuinely bad for Catherine, but you didn't feel enough for Anne in the end to really make her death impactful enough. Not to mention Henry was just poorly dealt with. I wanted so much more of the interplay between Henry and Anne, and I really wanted more Henry in the end. Eric Bana did an ok job and all, but it wasn't inspired work by any means. I'd give it a C- and call it a rainy day renter when you've watched everything else on the shelf.

I also watched "Walk Hard, the Dewey Cox story" night before last. It was right in line with any other Will Farrel movie, except that Will Farrel wasn't in it. And I kept seeing him in the lead role through the whole movie which was distracting. It was obvious in the extreme that the movie was written for Farrel and he either turned it down or didn't have time because he's in everything else right now, but it was still a decent flick. Pretty much lampooned Walk the Line all the way through with a bit of Ray thrown in for good measure, but all in all I found it a good laugh. And the music strangely enough wasn't bad. I'd be interested to find out if John C. Reilly actually did the singing. It sounded enough like him to be him but you never know these days. A B+ here, definitely worth a rent.

So there you go, my most recent movie reviews. And free too! Heh

So much going on right now, where to even begin. As I mentioned in the last post, Red Handed Studios is on it's own again. We've gone our separate ways from Premier Publishing with no animosity whatsoever. Rich at Premier was a top notch guy and great to work with. We just felt like it was time to make a change, and going it solo seemed like the right play to make. At this point we're still planning to start the print schedule in February and conclude the series before Christmas of next year, with the trade available early in 2010. So that's exciting stuff! We'll be offering subscriptions through the soon to be unveiled website, and of course we'll be attending numerous conventions over the course of the next several months as we start the big push into the release of the all new Dynagirl series! So yeah watch out, things are about to start moving at a hectic pace!

And that's a wrap on another one. I haven't been to see a theater movie in so long it's not even funny. I can't wait to see what this holiday season has for us! We won't be getting the annual Harry Potter deluge which might prove to be a serious mistake on the part of the studio, but that will clear the way for things like the Spirit and others to make big splashes. It's gonna be an interesting season as we run up to the Oscar deadline. At this point I can't even see a front runner in the nominations so a late bloomer might well score big points. My vote for best actor is still the same. There wasn't another actor on screen this entire year with Heath Ledger as the Joker. He takes it hands down and the other four guys shouldn't even worry about showing up other than to clap and show support cause there's a field of one this year.

Beyond that, who knows. Be safe out there in wonderland.

Oh yeah, and the Cowboys won! Yes!!

random madness

My typing posture is horrible. How weird is that to think about right now? Pretty weird. But it is. I hate it. I used to type 60 words a minute with no mistakes. Now I'd be hurting to get 40, at least with the correct posture. Makes me laugh to think about it. I only took typing as a blow off class because I had to have something and I figured since I was already into computers it wouldn't be a bad skill to have. Plus the typing teacher had a hot daughter right about my age…so why not right? Mrs. Eversole. Odd the things you recall after all this time isn't it?

They had our 20th class reunion recently. Well this summer I guess. I got to see all the pictures they took. People look a lot the same more or less. Older, maybe a little more experienced after having been out in the wild for 20 odd years or so. But you can still see the kids I went to school with in there. Surreal. I didn't make it to this one. Too much going on. Maybe I'll catch the 30th if they have it.

Christmas is right around the corner! And what's cool is I've already done a bit of my shopping. Not nearly all of it, but some, so that's cool. Less to do later I guess, right? woo hoo! But looking at this year I get a sense that it's gonna be a great holiday season. I'm excited about Christmas for the first time in a long time. Last year I had pretty high expectations and it turned out pretty much opposite of how I thought it would. I did get to spend it with my family, which was nice. The first time we had been together at Christmas in…a decade? Close to it if not. And I spent New Years with Michael and Marsha drinking margaritas and playing Scene it. We had a pretty good time. This year I'll be running all over the state of Texas I'm sure visiting family and friends, ringing out the old and in with the new year. It'll be hectic but I think it'll also be a blast. Vicky and I will also see if we can't squeeze in some alone time at some point. She's putting up the tree this weekend, but I'll still get my share of decorations in a couple of weeks, so that'll be fun! This year seems…different. And that makes me happy!

Beyond that, no new tales to tell. Well, that's not entirely true. I'm making changes yet again with Fallen Justice. Not the book, but on the production/publishing end of things. We'll be returning to the Red Handed Studios logo and brand and staying there for the foreseeable future. I've got the website under construction right now and I should have an update on when that will be available very soon with any luck. I'm still looking to go forward with a February print and offer subscriptions here shortly as well. So it's full steam ahead again. This book will be printed in full in 2009, even if I have to run the presses myself!

The Cowboys seem to be doing ok, but this week they have San Francisco. Not exactly the old rivalry days anymore since the niners suck SO bad. But hey, a win will be a win. Gets us closer to the playoffs for damn sure! And since we split with Washington, and the Eagles are rocking a tie game on their resume we're right in the mix for the wild card slot. We'll have to beat one of those teams to get it I'm sure, but that's cool. And I have tickets to see the Titans beat up on the poor Texans in a couple of weeks which I'm TOTALLY stoked about! If Vince Young were playing I might root for the Titans, but screw em. I'll be decked out in Texans gear no doubt about it. Can't get a Shaub jersey tho. I might go with the defensive guy Mario…or someone like that. I'll have to see. But I gotta get a jersey. Can't hit the game without that!

And for today, that's a wrap. It's been a shit month. lol but I made it through. One more to go and you can put a fork in this year cause it's done.

Be safe out there wherever this finds you. And think about doing something good for someone this year if you can. Doesn't have to be huge. Help some old lady carry her groceries out to her car. Open the door for someone at a restaurant. Take some food to a grieving family you know. Anything to spread the love around. This year more than ever we seem to be a country of pessimists and depressed angry people. The path out of that isn't a new economic plan or lower gas prices. It's about every day people doing good things for other everyday people, not because they expect to get something in return, but because they genuinely feel it's the right thing to do. Think about it.
